Microchipping

Nine Mile Veterinary Group recommend microchipping your pet for a number of excellent reasons:

  1. Microchipping significantly increases the chances of your pet being reunited with you in the unfortunate event that they go missing or are injured away from home.
  1. Pet theft is an upsetting reality. Microchipping your pet improves the chances of your pet being returned to you. Collars can be removed easily whereas microchips are more permanent and may make would-be thieves think twice.
  1. Travel abroad under the PET passport scheme requires pets to be microchipped.

  2. Microchipping of all dogs will be a legal requirement from April 2016.

Microchips are about the size of a grain of rice and are placed quickly and easily under the skin, usually between your petís shoulders. This can be done during a consult or when your pet is under anaesthetic, for example during neutering. Microchips have a unique number which is registered on a central database along with your contact details. This enables anyone with a scanner to find out who the animal belongs to and reunite them with their owner. Your pet will also be issued with a tag to go on their collar which tells people that they are microchipped and to scan them.

Our Healthy Pet Club entitles members to free microchipping, in addition to many other benefits. Please click here for more information.  Otherwise microchips are only £9.99 for all pets including implantation and initial registration!
