Maximum Benefit Policy

Maximum Benefit policies provide cover up to a maximum amount per condition but there is no time limit on how long you can claim for. The remaining benefit reduces each time the you claim until cover for that condition is exhausted. After the maximum benefit level is reached (levels vary) no further claims for that condition will be paid. This type of policy can be cheaper than a Lifetime policy (hyperlink) but if your pet develops a condition requiring life-long management then you may not be able to claim once your maximum benefit is reached.

Example:

Poppy is diagnosed with diabetes. If Mrs Smith had taken out a maximum benefit policy with 3000 of cover, she would have been able to claim for Poppy's diabetes medication until she reached the 3,000 limit, even if this took a couple of years. However, once the 3,000 limit is reached, costs to treat diabetes would be excluded from her policy and Mrs Smith would need to pay for any ongoing treatment costs out of her own pocket.
