Worms

Kittens are particularly susceptible to developing worm infestations and it is important to ensure they are up to date with worm control.

There are several types of worm that kittens need to be protected from:

Roundworms
There are many examples, with some being potentially dangerous to humans, especially children.
Lungworm
This worm can cause a range of problems from bleeding disorders to breathing difficulties, and is mainly spread via slugs and snails including their slime.
Tapeworm
These worms can grow to incredible lengths in the gut of your pet. Effective flea control helps control tapeworm as this is the main way they are spread.

Nine Mile vets recommend treating for roundworms and lungworm with a monthly spot-on containing imidacloprid and moxidectin, which also protects against fleas. This can be started from 9 weeks of age. Tapeworm is controlled with a product containing praziquantal every 3-6 months, and we usually start this from 6 months of age.

Our vets will be able to discuss other options for effective worm control and can advise on individual control plans for your kitten. Please call your local Nine Mile Vet clinic today to discuss your kitten’s individual requirements.

Our Healthy Pet Club (HPC) includes complete parasite control, in addition to other great benefits. Click here to learn more about HPC.
